About Vintage Years

Some members of the committee

In 2013, Vintage Years evolved from an earlier club, which closed down due to diminishing numbers. With 30 of the remaining members we decided to form a new and different club. Since then the club has gone from strength to strength. It is now has about 80 members, at least 50 of whom regularly attend the monthly meetings.

The aim of Vintage Years is to provide a welcoming environment where people can enjoy social interaction. The “entertainment” at meetings is designed to cater for all tastes – ranging from serious talks to pop groups, with the emphasis on enjoyment. The talks, music and quizzes are all intended to stimulate discussion. Of course food is also an important part of our “curriculum” and we try to provide homemade scones or cakes at some meetings and also have food or wine tastings. New friendships have been forged and the members look forward to seeing each other for a chat. Each year we have a questionnaire so that members can review the “entertainment” before we produce the following year’s programme.

The club does not have charitable status, it is a not-for-profit organisation and none of the organisers are paid staff. We have a constitution and, of course, provide audited accounts annually. Our AGM is held annually at the March Meeting. The club is fully insured.

Vintage Years is a totally independent club. Initially we were sponsored by the Wilson Trust and we thank them for all their help and support which has given us financial stability. Our Chairman works for AgeConcernUK and we are grateful that she is able to connect us to other like-minded organisations.

Being a member of Vintage Years has been a real joy, everybody is so nice and helpful.

I have belonged to Vintage Years for about 3 years. It is nice to see people of your own generation on a regular basis and of course to make new friends. We have films, talks, cream teas and the Outings which I thoroughly enjoy. We always like meeting new members and making them welcome.
